Labyrinthine Chapters 7-9

Labyrinthine

CHAPTER 7

The answerphone beeped. Olivia listened to the message and glanced at the intruder; it stood with its arms folded shaking its head. “Don’t trust him. His tone reveals he’s a liar.”

Olivia ignored the comment as she grappled to sit upright. “You know what? I don’t get this... What are you doing here? What do you want from me? If it’s money...”

“Why does it always have to be about money? Do I look as though I have the slightest interest in shiny pieces of metal?”

What did that mean? “Then…?”

“As I said... I’m waiting.” The person in black paused and glanced out of the window and back to the hourglass in front of it.

“Are you some kind of weird stalker of ex-child prodigies?” asked Olivia.

“God, no!” The intruder leant against the wall and sighed. “Do you understand the concept of timing?”

“In relation to what?” asked Olivia glancing at the door.

“Don’t bother thinking about escape. There isn’t time... And the timing is in relation to the universe,” it responded.

What did it mean? How could she get out? She squinted and touched the back of her head. It was still painful. Olivia frowned; the intruder was real, wasn’t it?

CHAPTER 8

The art agent clenched his fists and gritted his teeth. “She’s done it again! How many times do I have to endure this behaviour?”

Richard, the agent, attacked his mobile phone and pressed re-dial.

“She’d better be on her way! Or... or I’ll...” he muttered. Unconsciously he stamped on the black and white patterned marble floor of the gallery. The phone rang.

“This is Olivia, please leave a message,” said the answering machine clicking on.

“Where the bloody hell are you? Get your pathetic arse over here now! I will not take this shit anymore! You will get here and put this exhibition together or we both lose everything!” he yelled. When he was finished, he snapped the phone shut. Smack! It collided with the floor. The agent loosened his collar; beads of sweat caressed his forehead and dribbled down his nose. Clasping his chest, he groaned and swayed.

CHAPTER 9

Olivia’s instinctive response was to recoil while the verbal darts flew from the answer machine.

The intruder appeared entertained by her response.

Silence.

Smiling, the intruder watched the last few golden grains trickle through the timer.

“That’s it, my timing’s done,” it said calmly.

“No! What? You held me at gunpoint so my bloody arsehole of an agent could have a go at me? What kind of weirdo are you?” she demanded.

The intruder turned its back on her and shook the hourglass.

“Yep, the timing is perfect. Time to go. We did well. Er… Thank you.”

She flushed red. “Wait! What are you and who are you working for? Why did you do this?”

With its back to her, the intruder removed its dark glasses. For a moment, it paused and blinked a couple of times.

Olivia recoiled, “What the...?” She dug her fingers into the carpet and jammed her feet into the floor. Her instinct was to escape but all she could manage was to shake her head.

“I work for someone higher. I am known as the Connector and the timing is falling out,” it said casually. “It’s all got a bit chaotic, usually I wouldn’t take such measures…”

“You’re mad!”

The Connector’s thin lips curled. “Believe what you wish.”

Olivia shifted to kneeling. “What on earth are you?” asked Olivia, tears trickling down her cheeks.

The Connector waited, it expected the inevitable.

Urgently, she grabbed her stomach and suppressed a wave of nausea. Goosebumps prickled all over her body.

It glanced back at the hourglass, “I have overstayed my ‘time’ and witnessing my eyes will help you in the future - we will meet again.”

“But I don’t want to meet again!”

“The conscious choice is not yours and it will be a much nicer experience next time. I won’t bring the weapon.”

Olivia hugged herself; the Connector’s eyes were large and clear. They were so beautiful, so turquoise. Yet there was something missing.

The Connector gestured, “By seeing my eyes you will know what you are looking for - what is extra in you and what I am missing. You are now on a search for Retina Blue: it will be the genius behind your work. Think of it as a divine gift.”

It paused and gazed into her eyes, “You are very lucky - if luck exists,” it smirked.

“Retina Blue? What on earth does that mean?” she asked in a dazed tone.

“I said our time is up! The rest is up to you.” The Connector turned towards the window, paused for a second and glanced back.

“Olivia, consider the people you have in your life. A lot of them are arseholes. Time to clear them out! Transformation is coming!” It grinned, waved, ran and then jumped.

Olivia scrambled urgently to standing and sprinted towards the window. Her glance navigated one hundred and eighty degrees. Nothing. It had disappeared... How was that possible?

The space between the ground and the window was empty. There was no evidence and nowhere for it to go. Nothing. The only other visible living entity was a squawking raven perched on a chimney of the apartment block across the street.

“Go to routine Olivia,” she whispered to herself.

MONEY FARM CHAPTER 5

MONEY FARM CHAPTER 5

BLAME - THE DISTRACTION FROM POSITIVE ACTION

If something does not work change it.

Stop repeating patterns that do not work.

There are alternatives.

Why waste energy blaming when responsible acceptance will shift and transform negative into positive?

Researching caused me to delve into the depths. I searched for alternatives and noticed the lack of general responsibility. Of course fingers were pointed and blame was passed but nothing would change until the fragments of society united. Everyone was responsible because everyone’s expenditure contributed to the system. What’s more, the endless holding and hoarding of cash caused disruption. Money was the financial system’s blood which circulated like the tide – an ebb followed by flow. The people did not see the big picture because they were in the system so therefore could not witness the system from the objective perspective. You place a person in a human sized box and close the lid then ask them what is outside the box…. how do they know?

I lost sleep over the fact that the united social potential hanging in ether remained unimagined. Instead, society protested against the structure it existed within. Without any action towards an entirely new system, nothing could change. One can never achieve an undefined goal. Abstract cannot manifest in reality without a catalyst for existence. The destructive cycle continued and individuals remained trapped in their illusionary financial bubbles. People worked against each other rather than together. The promise of a better future kept the masses marching. However change had to begin now to enable the future to flourish. That meant each individual had to take responsibility for their contribution to the system and take action. These thoughts were what I had become. They were all part of my vision. I realised that something in me needed to take action and make global change. Yet how could one small person change a world caught in the financial illusion?

After that meeting I trudged home in the rain and glanced at my reflection in the puddles beneath my feet. My deflation contradicted my strong but rounded physique and my long brown wavy hair stuck to my rain-blasted face. My navy woolen dress, tights and long brown boots embodied my academic identity on a frigid afternoon in March. I fitted the academic mould – intelligence, knitwear and a decorative brooch. Who was I without the institution? My hopes of life-long acquisition of knowledge deteriorated. Three simple sentences on a given day had unexpectedly destroyed a person’s life. Rage brewed in my stomach and anger became my fuel – in the depths of that feeling I resolved to understand the details of the system, focus on its weaknesses, discover the strengths and break it. In the pit of my being, I felt I had the capacity to be a catalyst for massive change. Knowledge was my power, writing my skill and providing the individual with the opportunity to be the best they could be was my motivation. The etheric system had already anticipated my intentions. It was ready for me. M.O.N.E.Y. was aware of my research and intended to welcome me with open, financial arms. Of course they had to wait until my defenses were down, my pride had perished and I was ready to accept their conditions. There was a different way, I had to be part of it to understand it to enable the world to know. Financial prosperity for one and all was my dream where everyone contributed because they felt valued and safe. What a dream!

Narration - Helen Lloyd - Kick A$$!
Really Great Narration - Brits and Aussies and Germans and more. Lovely voice to listen to and she even captured the rather robotic nature of the cult-like members of the Money Farm.

This is a really terrific book - and is it bad that for the majority of the book I was thinking "sign me up!" (or at least sign up one of my grand-kids and let me move into one of the retirement neighborhoods).

The Money's are all 'their best selves' due to the nutrition and fitness requirements along with a few other treatments along the way which are tailored to each individual and allow them to reach their full potential. All their needs are met, they have no debts, no worries, they are appreciated and they all live in really nice digs. (like I said...sign me up!)

It's a smartly written and thought provoking book of a Dystopian/Eutopian society where our heroine Jyllian finds her-self jobless with her savings running out. She ends up being selected to join the M.O.N.E.Y.'s as a "breaker" because of her intelligent & rebellious way of thinking. She is to challenge their systems and find ways to break them, all in the name of making them better.

The story follows her and a few other select characters through their introduction to Money, their training, their indoctrination and ultimately through their discovery of what Money's goals really are.

I can't really say much more without giving away too much, but I thought it was a really terrific book. It was hard for me to 'get into it' in the beginning, but I plan to listen to the start again.

It's smartly written and filled with intricate details about these two "worlds". Really an interesting book about the state of the worlds finances! Loved it! I'm actually stunned that I'm only the second review of this book on Goodreads. READ or LISTEN to it! It's a keeper!

I received a copy of this audiobook free of charge from Audiobookblast in exchange for an unbiased review.

Strategic thinking and its benefits.

Strategic thinking and its benefits.
Isn’t it funny that quite often in life we just get on with things without thinking of the destination? Instead we jump straight in and start doing something without actually considering our intended outcome. This is what I learned today. I just get on with things rather than think of the plan. There were plenty of others like that in the group as well. I know it is simple and there are probably numerous strategically minded thinking people muttering ‘hello –obvious!!!’ Well to some people strategic thinking isn’t obvious. In fact, have you ever considered how people think so differently? Some people achieve their goals by taking action, others build structures and order while some simply think about what they need to do until they get it clear in their head.
Take for example your own life – what is your two year plan, your five year plan or your ten year plan?
Is there something you really want to achieve but you kind of hope it will just happen or just fall into place?
For me, this last couple of weeks has provided necessity, the mother of all invention. I am coming to the end of a five year plan, where I pretty much achieved all that I desired. However, I realised that I do not have a strategy or plan for the future or the next ten years. When I have no goal or no focus I find that I waft around in nothingness, not really getting anywhere or achieving anything. I then stagnate, feel stuck and get frustrated. I find that so many people really don’t know what they want so just get by. When someone close by to them achieves something great they say well ‘that was easy for them.’ It was not easy for them – they more than likely set a goal, decided on what they wanted and created a plan to achieve it.
So… are you ready to plan? To make that plan that will get you somewhere rather than sitting on your posterior waiting for a random miracle to happen?
First get that MISSION together.
The MISSION statement asks what do you really want? As a brand why do you exist? It might be to be the best you can be. Or to be the best cook in the world. What is it that you really want? What is the purpose of the mission? Why does this mission exist?
VISION – what is it you hope to achieve or want to be? So say you want to be the best cook in the world - would your vision be the following: to contribute my skills as a cook to the world through creating innovative and delicious recipes in a book and online. My reputation for unique food combinations generates a reputation and a niche market.
IMPLEMENTATION PLAN:
How do you do it? What needs to happen?
As a cook you might set up a blog and provide a weekly recipe and share your tips on cooking efficiency.
You then build your recipe portfolio and add in the pictures. Finally you self-publish the book on-line and advertise it with your regular recipe blog.
MEASURE OF SUCCESS:
How do you measure whether you are the best cook in the world?
Is it based on book sales? Is it based on how many people read your blog? Do people have to point at you in the street and say ‘that is the best cook in the world or do you need a medal?’ Maybe it is media presence – your own cook and talk show. Whatever the measure is, make sure you measure your success. Look at what works and what does not work and then tailor the plan. Increase more of what works and cut your time wastage on what does not work.
Now do the above for two years.
Work out what you want to achieve over five years.
Finally work out the ten year dream.
Remember the plans can all change. You just need the initial vision in your mind to start the journey to the destination. You don’t travel on a plane and ask where it is you landed do you?
