You asked for more... Love Hunt 2 - The Love Game

Love Hunt II: The Love Game Audiobook

Love Hunt 2 - you asked for a bit more....

Dear Eva, I am BACK! Oh that is so FANNY!!!! Ha! Ha! Ha! My darling it is funny. Fanny is a lady’s undercarriage – the pleasure part. My goodness I have missed your turn of phrase and your very special worldview. In fact it is a few weeks since I spat my drink at a computer screen and the first thing I did this morning was read your mail and spit my coffee. I am sure my colleagues must be impressed. They must think it is my return from holiday ritual!

I have never noticed wobbling bottoms at the gym but no doubt they are going to draw my attention daily from now on. It will be like watching jelly on a washing machine during a spin cycle. It is the time of year where people make their gym attempts – sweat too much and realise they don’t like turning purple in public.

Eva, I have so much to tell you and I am already smirking about icicles sticking out bras. The funny thing is I have only been away ten days and I have over a thousand work emails to wade through. Of course I read yours first! I put you at the top of the priority list. I hope that makes you feel special against the different investigations, metrics and formulae already pursuing me. I can feel the mental asteroids circling.

Well having a break did something. I saw a new life perspective while I ogled fit men and was massaged by one particular hotty, which resulted in a bit of a holiday romance. This then revealed a whole world of potential and I have now developed two lists - imagine!

So here we are - the ideal man list and The LUST LIST!!!. I was going to call the latter the sexy sausage list but something in the word lust combined with list sent tingles down my spine. I love lists and lust combined... Oh another moment of inspiration just hit like lightening - The LOVE LIST & The LUST LIST. Yey!!!!! I am yeying at the desk. Who does that? Me apparently. Yey, yey and triple lusty lovey yey!!!!

You might ask what is the lust list? The criteria and parameters for this list is purely for ‘play time.’ I realised on holiday that I have been taking this dating malarchy far too seriously. The criteria are specific; there is certainly no a hint of nasal hair on the owner of a perfectly musculated arm! What a revelation. A woman can have a lust list in her ‘tick list / to do book!’ Amazing or what? I never realised that lists moved beyond work so well!

Right Eva I will have to get on with some work because that is apparently why I come to this place (other than aggravate the crap out of my work colleagues). Oh God, I have to wade through numerous dull emails; however, I have the potential for loads of literary ranting today. I have so much to tell you and my rapid typing fingers have rested over the ten days! I think I can beat my ninety words a minute record. Steam may come from the keyboard! And.... Well Abdi and Greg may well be curious. They were so sweet when I returned because the team did a mini Miami wave. It is slightly different to the Mexican wave. They all joined hands and undulated across their bodies in a wave. Then sang ‘Yey she returned... She did ney get pale face burned. Instead she is here with millions of emails – oh dear! Maybe we should get her a beer!’ To finish the whole celebration Greg and Abdi stood up and did a German bottom slapping dance. It was well choreographed and quite a show! This is why I love my team. They are nuts!

Talk soon after my numerous email endeavours!

Labyrinthine Chapter 2 & 3

Labyrinthine

CHAPTER 2

In the exhibition hall of an exclusive art gallery, a plump, fuming, fifty-something art agent paced up and down muttering under his breath. As he loosened his tie, his shifty eyes darted about in agitation. Hunching his shoulders, he grew increasingly rigid.

“That girl’s always late! It’s her last bloody chance!”

He scraped his chubby fingers over his balding head.

“Complete and utter disrespect! What does she think I am?”

He paused by a white framed window and stared out. For a moment, he just shook his head and checked his watch. I’m sick of it! If she doesn’t get here soon, I’ll have her bloody killed, that way her work might be worth something!

The agent’s face grew increasingly crimson, “This is her last bloody chance!” he spat.

CHAPTER 3

In a luxurious hotel, overlooking Bournemouth’s sandy beaches, Max laid on his king-size bed, smiling at the naked woman before him. He admired her curves as he traced his finger across her tanned, lean stomach. She smiled a coy smile, removed his hand from her hip, and slipped on her black, satin dress. “Time for me to go,” she said.

He sighed, “You don’t really have to go, do you?”

“You know I do.”

She gazed at him, bent over and kissed him on the forehead. Max gazed at her breasts and then into her eyes. She shook her head, turned, and glanced over her shoulder as she walked towards the door.

He watched the elegant woman leave the room and adjusted himself. He would never see her again.

“Damn, I have to call Olivia!”

Max yawned, rolled over and reached for his mobile. He resented having to call Olivia. She had an exhibition looming and would be at her wits end. Did he really need to deal with all that stress? He huffed; what he put himself through just to be with her was ridiculous. Max smiled wryly; he had his reasons and it was nearly time.

Can Happiness Be That Simple?

I will be happy when.... That is quite often the circulating thought that churns in the minds of many. Have you had that thought yourself? Now, for some reason, we all believe that we deserve to be happy. Second of all we are conditioned to believe that happiness is a state external to ourselves. Strange isn't it? We want to feel happy inside by looking outside. That is like expecting a room with no windows to be illuminated by the light beyond the walls.

Over the last weeks I have been contemplating happiness and the contrast dissatisfaction. While doing this I asked many of my colleagues what would make them happy. As a joke I suggested a 'golden cape of excellence' might help. Strangely the thought of trotting around a vast corporation in a gold cape did make us very happy. It was the sense of rebellion that came with it. Yet wearing a gold cape and adopting super-hero poses can only make a person happy for a short amount of time. So the state of constant happiness - where does that come from? This then resulted in the question - can a person be in a state of constant happiness? If they were would they know it?

Yes, here I am again, with questions on the interior world. It seems that we will never experience another person's interior world so one person's feeling of happiness will be very different to anothers'. Of course we will never find out because we can't step into another person's true experience of life.
So happiness, in my opinion feels like a state of relaxation with a sense of warmth in the heart. A feeling of openness like your whole being is smiling. With that definition, I thought what was it that prompted this inner state. Try it - list all the things that make your being smile.
Mine are as follows:
Being naughty / mischievious.
Being playful
Laughing heartily with my friends and colleagues
The feeling after yoga or chi kung.
Feeling united in a team sport
Stand up paddle-boarding.
Doing quiet meditation.
Being on or in the sea.
Running and being in a rhythm.
Having a lovely dinner.
Having a nice, clean home.
Playing with children.
Writing my books and laughing at my own jokes.
Barbecues on the beach with friends in the summer.

So all of the above bring me personal happiness. I looked at the list and realised that none of the above are bought, owned or rely on money. At any moment I can choose to do one of the above and that will make me happy.

What causes me dissatisfaction?
Bills.
Not having enough time.
Rude people.
Things that make me feel stuck.
Getting close to overdraft.
Bitchiness.
Lies and liars.
Bad things happening to good people.
Other people's stupidity.
People who moan.
When I look at the dissatisfaction list, they are based on money and negative character traits. The reality is that I will always have to pay bills and money ebbs and flows. So there is acceptance in that.

So can happiness be simple? Try writing your list... What makes you happy and you will see it is the simple things. A nice car and home are great yet you may well discover that what actually makes you happy are the simplest things. You can choose to fill your life with those and reduce those that make you unhappy. In doing so you increase your happy state.

:)

Finding the right voice for your audio book.

How important is a voice?

When I first heard the audition for the Labyrinthine, as the audiobook, my hair stood on end. Of all the various voices - this one stood out. It is funny how you just 'know' when something is right. What set this actress apart was her capacity to 'become' the characters and reveal their perspectives. In truth, she simply blew me away. Labyrinthine, the book being turned into audio, is a book with character depths based on symbolic archetypes. That was why the voice was paramount. In one moment she could be an old hag and the next a sexless being. She understood what was needed and literally vocally transformed.

I guess there are numerous authors involved in having their books made into audio and to be quite honest I had no idea what was involved. A novel of around 120,000 words is a recording of approximately twelve hours with numerous takes. The reason that I mention this is because you will have to listen to those twelve hours numerous times and be detailed in your response to the numerous takes. It is not a step for the faint hearted. This is your book and you want it to be the best it can be. What's more, there are moments when you will squirm, when a part of the book you wanted read in a certain way will sound clichéd. It is a heavy process to go through, but one that is worth it in the end because audio books are some of the highest sellers thanks to Audible. What's more, hearing your book come to life is an experience that will blow you away.

Some of my friends asked why I didn't read my books myself. Well the simple truth is: I don't think I could listen to my own voice for twelve hours in repetition. I certainly could not maintain consistency - I would rather let a professional with a fantastic voice do that while I focus on writing my books.

The book that is being made into audio is Labyrinthine, a book I loved writing and a book I feel provides so rather insightful answers about life. Of all the books I have written, I am not surprised that this one was picked at this time.

Read it if you are ready to experience and understand synchronicity:)

Write what people want?

Write what people want? Is that the best advice a successful author can give you?
When I first received this advice I had to contain my expression of absolute bewilderment. I also had to conceal an offended chuckle. Really? You go to a literary event and ask what is the best advice you can provide for new authors? Answer: write what people want.

You will have to excuse any expletives that I now write but what the F*!!! If everyone knew what people wanted surely all books would be bestsellers. What's more, not all people want the same thing. Do we really think that some of the most famous authors sat down and thought - what do people want to read? I am sure that J.K. Rowling did not go - hmmm people will want to know about a young boy with a scar on his head. Or Douglas Adams laid thinking - what do people want? - Oh yes they want a Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Their ideas and books came from inspiration. Douglas Adams was travelling, a little wasted and laying in field looking at the sky when he had the title pop into his head. There was none of this - hmmm what do people want?

Now, in contrast to approval seeking, I like to think of my writing as a time and a space in which to explore characters and build stories. My whole approach is not seeking approval from strangers; instead, my writing is about enjoying every moment of creation. It enables me to explore visionary concepts and step into constructed mental landscapes. Maybe this is the anti-thesis of write what people want - I write what I want because it provides mental adventure. I write to sit crying laughing at my own jokes or enjoy taking characters to absolute extremes. If I was writing what I thought people wanted I would spend my whole time focused on seeking writing approval. That would certainly not motivate me. Instead I a compelled to write because it is my passion and I love literary escapades.

Another point that popped into my mind was maybe 'people' don't know what they want to read until it exists. Now there is a paradox - you don't know something is missing until it turns up in your life. Maybe the next book you or I write will be precisely what people want - they just don't know it yet.
My advice is write your passion for you. If people want it good. I would also then ask why I write. Do I write because I desire to be rich or do I write because something within my soul compels me to write, explore and enjoy?
